An Introduction to the Role of Homeopathy in Pregnancy & Delivery

During pregnancy it is essential to take excellent care of yourself- to eat wholesome foods, drink enough water, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep and see your healthcare provider for regular check-ups. These measures will go a long way towards ensuring a healthy pregnancy and a happy baby. Pregnancy is a normal, natural, and beautiful time in a woman’s life. However, even the healthiest mother-to-be can develop annoying discomforts. Mothers are often very relieved to find that there are gentle and natural alternatives to conventional drugs to help you deal with such discomforts and pregnancy is a perfect time to seek homeopathic treatment.

Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine safely used to treat patients with almost any health issue. It has been proven effective for over 200 years and is recognized as the second most used system of medicine in the world today. Medicines prescribed homoeopathically act as a catalyst by stimulating the body’s own self-healing mechanisms and defences. Homeopathy is safe, non-toxic and gentle for pregnant women, infants, children, adults, and the elderly.

Some of the pregnancy related conditions that are effectively treated with homeopathy (although not limited to) include:

  • Nausea/ vomiting (morning sickness)
  • Constipation
  • Mood swings
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Varicose veins

Homeopathy can be useful in labour as well. Remedies can be taken during labour to help ease pains, calm the mother emotionally or remove obstacles that are preventing a smooth delivery. Some situations homeopathy can help with in labour include:

  • Delayed Labour
  • Slow Labour
  • Excessive Pain
  • Exhaustion
  • Malpresentation of the Baby
  • Hemorrhage
  • Retained Placenta

The postpartum period presents many challenges to the mother and infant. Homeopathy is effective in treating problems during this time such as:

  • Excessive Pain after Labour, Episiotomy or Caesarean Section
  • Breast Pain or Nursing Problems, such as Mastitis
  • Jaundice
  • Diaper Rash
  • Colic & Teething
  • Postpartum Depression

There are gentle and natural alternatives to conventional drugs out there. If you are uncomfortable giving yourself or your baby synthetic drugs, or find they are not effective homeopathy is a wonderful alternative and/or integrative approach to health care.  For more information on homeopathic treatment please contact Andrea at the Sage clinic - 519-573-6700.
