PARASITES:  The Monsters Inside of YOU!

Parasite infections are very common!  When I started conducting Live Blood Cell Analysis I was surprised and shocked at the number of parasites I was seeing in clinic.   Due to our psychological and ethnocentric “worm phobia”, we are in denial about these COMMON infections.  In fact 8 out of 10 North Americans (and 85% of people around the world) have parasites.  Most likely someone in your family has an undetected parasite.  It is time to get educated,  get over the stigma associated with parasites, and start treating naturally.

Parasites receive little to no attention in conventional medicine.  Many health care professionals still consider parasites to be a third world problem.  This is not the case.   Parasites do not stop at the boarders despite our high levels of hygiene.  Moreover, there are only a handful of laboratories that do extensive tests (which consists of consecutive stool samples over several days) in order to detect these invaders.

It is extremely easy to contract a parasite.  Some common sources of infection include contaminated water, undercooked or improperly washed food, contact with another infected person, and transmission from pets and farm animals. Travel also increases your risk of contracting a parasite, as does the use of antibiotics.  This is because antibiotics taken without probiotics interferes with normal intestinal flora, which is key to a healthy immune system.

Only rarely is there any visible evidence of an infection.  This is why so many people are left undiagnosed.  In the acute stage of an infection you may experience abdominal distress and loose stools.  Once they breach the gut, symptoms may not be evident aside from decreased energy.  The truth is that parasites are an important contributing cause of immune deficiency, allergies, chronic fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, frequent colds, and general poor health.  This is because parasites gradually and steadily erode the body of the resources and defenses to function optimally and maintain health.

As previously mentioned, many labs fail to detect the presence of parasites, and symptoms in the intestinal tract can be seldom.  There are however other helpful tests such as dark field microscopy (aka Live Blood Cell Analysis).  Live blood when conducted by a trained microscopist can tell you whether or not you and your children are suffering from a parasite infection and should begin treatment.

Possible Symptoms of Parasite Infection:

  • Repeated diarrhea or constipation
  • Chronic, unexplained nausea, often accompanied by vomiting
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Intestinal cramping
  • Unexplained dizziness or Blood sugar fluctutaions
  • Foul-smelling gas
  • Indigestion  and malabsorption of fatty foods
  • Bloating
  • Multiple food allergies
  • Loss of appetite and/or sudden food cravings
  • Itching around the anus, especially at night (Children pick the nose, ears and anus)
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Emaciation OR weight gain
  • Itching on the soles of the feet, often accompanied by a rash
  • Coughing blood (severe cases)
  • Palpitations (hook worms)
  • Anemia
  • Facial swelling around the eyes (round worms)
  • Skin sensitivity (ie. Rashes, eczema)

Some parasites can eventually affect the nervous system.  This can lead to sleep disorders and even hyperactivity, depression and anxiety especially in children.   In other cases memory can be effected or other major organs such as the liver, pancreas, and kidneys.

How to Get Rid of Parasites:

There are many natural health products you can use to help cleans the body of parasites. I recommend working with a natural health care practitioner because many treatments (even natural ones) can be extremely harsh.  Anti-parasitic pharmaceuticals are always toxic and associated with side effects.  Therefore, I always suggest taking a gentler route when signs and symptoms are not severe.

Many times homeopathic remedies are enough to dispel worms and other parasites.  At other times the situation requires the use of stronger herbal concentrates such as grapefruit-seed extract, artemesia, and black walnut.  Serious infections like tapeworm and hookworm often need medical intervention.  In all cases, HOMEOPATHICS are a perfect complement to help eradicate the tendency to recurrence, while building resistance to these infections.

Please note that as parasites die, they release toxins through their excrement and as they rot. Even when dead, the body is still burdened with the task of flushing them out. This whole process can initially make the person feel worse before they feel better.  This is why it is so important to work with a health professional during the cleansing process.

Basic suggestions while undergoing a parasite cleanse:

  • Take a natural and thorough parasite cleans under the care of your Naturopath or Homeopath. Follow up with a constitutional Homeopathic Remedy as prescribed by your Homeopath to build resistance.
  • Eat lots of Coconut oil!  Parasites do not like coconut oil. It will also help your liver during the detoxification process and balance your healthy fats as well.
  • Avoid coffee, refined sugar, alcohol, and processed foods.
  • Eat more raw garlic (an anti-parasitic food).
  • Enjoy pineapple daily as it contains the digestive enzyme bromelain, which can help eliminate certain parasites.
  • Eat food that contain Vitamin A, which is believed to increase the resistance to penetration by larvae. Carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash!
  • Take a high quality probiotic daily to rebuild beneficial intestinal bacteria.
  • Cook with turmeric and cloves are other spices that can help fight parasites.
  • Men should eat lots of pumpkin seeds or take pumpkin seed oil to help protect their male anatomy from parasites.
  • Always drink plenty of water and eat a diet high in fiber while undergoing a parasite cleans.  Let’s get them out and keep them out!
